If you have found
yourself with some
black
marks on your credit
history, you are
not
alone. Millions of
Americans have experienced
bad credit. It does
not mean the end
of your
ability to get credit.
You can't change
your
credit history, but
you can make the
immediate
history looked at
by creditors turn
into
positives rather
than negatives. The
real
key to doing that
is time, as you need
to
start rebuilding
as soon as possible.
Rebuilding Credit
Secured General Card - The way these work is you put a certain
amount of money in a savings account that
is used specifically to secure your credit
card. The reason the bank is willing to give
you a card in spite of your bad credit history
is that the bank is holding the money to
make sure it gets paid.
Secured Personal Loans - Building a good relationship with a bank
where you have a checking account, savings
account, etc. Don't be shy about talking
to them about ways to re-establish your credit.
See if you can take out a small personal
loan on something that could serve as collateral.
Cosigners - let someone with good credit cosign for
you. The idea here
is that you are looking
to rebuild your credit.
Make sure you pay
- because if you
do not the cosigner will
be responsible and
they will have to pay
your expense and
you can guarantee that they
will never help you
out again.
This is critical!! Rebuilding a good credit history is a long
haul, and you do not want to set yourself
back a few steps by being late with a payment.
There are a couple
of things you can
do to
improve your credit
status that don't
have
anything to do with
credit:
1. Remain at the
same address for
a while
2. The longer you
are with the same
employer,
the better.
3. Open a Checking Account
4. DO NOT bounce
checks

*Alert* Helpful Hints Freeze credit card into a block of ice and
keep them in the freezer! That way, you can't
use them without waiting for them to thaw.
Don't microwave them for a quick thaw - you
might melt the plastic card!
